Vicente De Mello

Vicente Henriques Botelho de Mello, born in São Paulo in 1967, is a renowned Brazilian photographer. He graduated in social communication with a focus on advertising from Universidade Estácio de Sá in Rio de Janeiro in 1989 and later specialized in art history and Brazilian architecture at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC/RJ) between 1992 and 1994.

Mello's professional journey began with significant internships, including at the Instituto Nacional de Fotografia at Funarte and the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM/RJ). In 1992, he worked at Lexington Labs in New York. Throughout the 1990s, Mello focused on the photographic reproduction of artworks and was responsible for documenting the exhibitions of the Gilberto Chateaubriand Collection at MAM/RJ.

Simultaneously, he conducted photographic research exploring technical aspects of the medium, such as light and framing. One of his notable series, Topografia Imaginária, features black-and-white photographs of human body fragments. In 1998, he was awarded the Brasília Visual Arts Prize. Since 2000, Mello has operated his studio in Rio de Janeiro, continuing his editorial work and exhibiting in galleries and museums.
