Valdeir Maciel

Valdeir Maciel (Bacabal, Maranhão, 1937 – São Paulo, 2001) was a self-taught artist whose career flourished in São Paulo from 1961 onwards. Discreet and reserved, Maciel developed his work within the São Paulo art scene, closely associated with a select group of friends and intellectuals who gravitated around the influential art critic Theon Spanudis.

His work reflects deep introspection and a constant search for forms and colors that express his inner concerns. Although he did not aggressively seek public recognition, his works stood out for their originality and the authenticity with which he explored abstraction. Maciel became known for his unique style, characterized by a vibrant color palette and a poetic and contemplative approach to his compositions.
