Uiara Bartira

Uiara Bartira Saporiti Cioffi, born in Curitiba, Paraná, in 1949, is a renowned Brazilian painter, draughtswoman, printmaker, and educator. She graduated in painting from the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná (Embap) in 1977, and during that time, she also studied at the Creativity Center of Curitiba, expanding her artistic skills across different techniques and concepts.

In 1982, Uiara specialized in printmaking, drawing, and photogravure in New York, which provided her with new perspectives and advanced techniques in her artistic practice. Upon returning to Curitiba, she held her first solo exhibition, marking the beginning of a prolific and innovative career.

Between 1989 and 1992, Uiara completed her master's degree with the thesis "The Evolution of Brazilian Printmaking Aesthetics," under the guidance of the Italian artist Maria Bonomi. During this period, she played a crucial role in establishing the Museum of Printmaking in Curitiba and in developing the printmaking course at Embap, where she taught and inspired the first generation of students.

Her career also stood out for her participation in important events and exhibitions, such as the Panorama of Brazilian Art at the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo (MAM/SP) in 1990. Additionally, she curated the Curitiba City Print Show, reaffirming her commitment to disseminating and valuing printmaking in Brazil.

Between 1996 and 2006, Uiara lived in Rio de Janeiro, where she explored the theme of self-healing through her paintings. During her stay, she co-founded the 104 Arts Laboratory in 2001, a collaborative space that brought together artists from various fields to experiment and create new forms of art.

In 2007, she completed her doctorate with the thesis "Art-Cosmological Decoding," supervised by art critic Paulo Herkenhoff, and held a namesake exhibition in Curitiba that solidified her prestige as an innovative artist. Between 1985 and 2010, Uiara produced around 1,300 works, showcased in numerous exhibitions in Brazil and abroad.

Her legacy is documented in the book-catalog "Conciliar," released in 2013, reflecting the depth and diversity of her work. Uiara Bartira remains an influential figure in the Brazilian art scene, known for her unique approach and significant contribution to contemporary art.
