TOZ

Tomaz Viana, widely known as Toz, was born in Salvador in 1976. Trained in design, he lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. His practice is primarily rooted in painting, creating visual narratives inspired by everyday life. Moving fluidly between the streets and the gallery space, he works with materials such as oil paint and spray, often centered around autobiographical characters.

In his most recent phase, the artist embraces an abstract and gestural approach. Toz covers his iconic figures with plaster and, through deliberate incisions, unveils hidden layers of color. The act alludes both to the impermanence of street graffiti and to the uncertainty of the global moment. His current research unfolds as an archaeology of the future, concealing in order to reveal, preserving in order to be rediscovered.
