Tikashi Fukushima

Tikashi Fukushima was a Japanese-Brazilian painter and printmaker, considered one of the most important abstract artists in Brazil. Throughout his career, Fukushima also produced numerous figurative works, receiving positive reviews from many significant art critics for both his abstract and figurative productions. Belonging to the pre-war immigrant generation, Fukushima turned to visual arts after several life changes. His mentor was Tadashi Kaminagai, whom he regarded as a guide, despite their differing painting styles.

Fukushima participated in artistic groups such as Seibi-kai and Grupo Guanabara, interacting with numerous painters, many of Japanese descent. The artist was honored with numerous titles and awards, and his works were acquired by important collections in Brazil and abroad. Additionally, he served as a member of the Arts Commission of the Brazil-Japan Foundation of Plastic Arts, president of the Plastic Arts Commission of the Brazilian Society of Japanese Culture, and president of the Museum of Japanese-Brazilian Art. In 1997, he received the Order of the Sacred Treasure.
