Sonia Delaunay

Sonia Delaunay (Ukraine, 1885 - 1979) was a multifaceted artist who spent most of her life in Paris. Together with her husband Robert Delaunay and other artists, she founded the Orphism art movement, known for its use of strong colors and geometric shapes. Her artistic practice expanded to include textiles, fashion, and scenography, integrating concepts of geometric abstraction and modern design.

Delaunay was a pioneer in the integration of furniture, fabrics, wall coverings, and clothing into her work, influencing contemporary design. In 1964, she became the first living artist to have a retrospective exhibition at the Louvre, a significant milestone in her career. In recognition of her contribution to the arts, she was named an officer of the French Legion of Honor in 1975.
