Solari

Luis Alberto Solari was born in Fray Bentos, Uruguay, in 1918, and passed away in Montevideo in 1993.

He began his artistic career by joining the Uruguayan representation at the São Paulo Biennial in 1951. He moved to Montevideo in 1965, where he lived until 1967. That year, he left for New York to study printmaking, staying there until 1986. Upon returning to Uruguay, he had his first retrospective at the Blanes Museum in 1989.

Solari exhibited his work at various Biennials in the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and was highlighted as one of the great revelations at the Venice Biennale in a book by José Saramago. In Brazil, he held his last exhibition in 1990 at our gallery. After his death, a book on his work titled "Máscaras todo el año" was published.

He is considered one of the foremost artists of Uruguay of all time, leaving a significant legacy in Uruguayan and international art.
