Sheila Goloborotko

Sheila Goloborotko is a Brazilian visual artist who has been based in the United States for 30 years. Her academic background includes a bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of Santos, São Paulo (1976-1981), and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Brooklyn College, New York (1983-1985).

Goloborotko is an award-winning artist, having received the Brooklyn Arts Council Regrant Award eight times. Her teaching career is extensive and varied; she has been part of the Brooklyn College faculty and currently teaches printmaking, drawing, and art fundamentals at Pratt Institute. Additionally, she conducts workshops at the Lower East Side Printshop in New York, one of the most traditional printmaking centers in the United States.

In 1989, she founded Goloborotko’s Studio in New York, a center dedicated to printmaking where she teaches various contemporary techniques. The studio has become a reference point for artists seeking to explore and expand the boundaries of printmaking techniques. Through her classes and workshops, Goloborotko has influenced a generation of artists with her innovative approaches and commitment to technical excellence.

Her work is characterized by the combination of traditional printmaking techniques with contemporary approaches, creating pieces that explore themes such as identity, memory, and the intersection between the personal and the collective. Goloborotko continues to work and exhibit internationally, dividing her time between São Paulo and New York.
