RES

Rubens Espírito Santo, known as RES, was born in São José dos Campos on August 29, 1966. He is a Brazilian visual artist with a career marked by diverse studies and artistic practices, contributing significantly to contemporary Brazilian art.

Academic Background
RES has a rich and diverse academic background. In 1984, he began studying Theory of Literature with Rubens Eduardo Frias. Between 1985 and 1989, he studied Semiotics with Prof. Dr. Sônia Leal Guedes do Nascimento. From 1988 to 1991, he deepened his knowledge in Aesthetics and Philosophy with the German astrophysicist and art philosopher Dr. Christophe Kotanyi. Additionally, he attended the Instituto de Teologia e Filosofia Santa Teresinha, the Instituto Superior de Filosofia Santa Terezinha, the Printmaking Studio at the Lasar Segall Museum, and the Art Theory course with Belgian historian and professor Thierry de Duve.

Artistic Career
RES's artistic career is marked by numerous solo and group exhibitions, both in Brazil and abroad. Since the 2000s, RES has stood out in various art events, being nominated and awarded on several occasions. In 2008, he received the ProAc Award from the São Paulo Secretariat of Culture and, in 2007, the PAC Award from the São Paulo State Government. Other awards include the Rumos Itaú Cultural and the Iberê Camargo Fellowship in 2005, in addition to being a finalist for the Marcantonio Vilaça Award.
