Rubem Ludolf

Rubem Mauro Cardoso Ludolf (Maceió, AL, 1932 – Rio de Janeiro, RJ, 2010) was a prominent Brazilian painter, architect, and landscape designer. He graduated in 1955 from the National School of Architecture of the University of Brazil, now known as the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). During this time, Ludolf attended Ivan Serpa’s free painting classes at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM/RJ), a significant influence on his artistic journey.

In 1955, he joined the Grupo Frente, one of the most important avant-garde art collectives of the time. Between 1956 and 1957, he became involved with the concretist movement, which had a profound impact on his work. In addition to his artistic career, Rubem Ludolf worked as an architect at the National Department of Highways (DNER) from 1954 to 1990, primarily focusing on landscape projects.

Ludolf participated in five editions of the São Paulo International Biennial between 1955 and 1967, receiving the acquisition prize in his final participation. In 1973, he was part of the special exhibition "Constructed Art: Tribute to Waldemar Cordeiro" during the 12th edition of the Biennial.
