Rodrigo Torres

Rodrigo Torres, born in 1981, is a Brazilian artist known for his participation in various national and international exhibitions. He was nominated for the PIPA Prize in 2011 and 2012.

Education and Career:
Torres studied painting at the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and took photography courses at the Ateliê da Imagem in Urca, Rio de Janeiro. He worked as an assistant to the renowned artist Luiz Zerbini and participated in the Advanced Program at the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage.

Exhibitions and Awards:
In 2018, Torres participated in the group exhibition "A Luta Continua" featuring the Sylvio Perlstein Collection at Hauser & Wirth in New York. In 2017, he was part of the group show "A luz que vela o corpo é a mesma que revela a tela" at Caixa Cultural, Rio de Janeiro, and held a solo exhibition titled "Víveres" at A Gentil Carioca gallery, also in Rio. The previous year, he presented the solo exhibition "Apreensão" at Casa França-Brasil and participated in group shows "Primavera nos dentes" at LUME Galeria and "Mapas, Cartas, Guias e Portulanos" at Torre Santander, both in São Paulo.

In 2015, Torres participated in the group exhibition "Vértice" at the Centro Cultural dos Correios in both Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In 2012, he held the solo exhibition "Sensor" at A Gentil Carioca gallery. The previous year, he was part of the exhibition "Geração 00 – a nova fotografia brasileira" at Sesc Belenzinho, São Paulo. In 2010, he participated in "Arquivo Geral" at the Centro Cultural Hélio Oiticica, Rio de Janeiro, "Crossing Borders, Building Bridges" at Modified Arts, Phoenix, USA, and the "16th UNAMA Small Formats Salon" in Belém, Pará.

Awards:
In 2010, Rodrigo Torres received the Contemporary Photography Award from the Diário Contemporâneo at the UFPA museum in Belém, and he was awarded the acquisition prize at the 16th UNAMA Small Formats Salon, as well as the Itamaraty Contemporary Art Award.

Collections:
His work is part of significant collections such as the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR), Itaú Cultural Photography Collection, and the Kadist Foundation.
