Rodrigo Andrade

Rodrigo de Castro Andrade (São Paulo, 1962) is a Brazilian painter, printmaker, and graphic artist. In the late 1970s, he began his training in printmaking at Sérgio Fingermann's studio in São Paulo and attended the Studio of Graphics Arts in Glasgow, Scotland. In the 1980s, he studied drawing with Carlos Fajardo and took printmaking and painting courses at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

Back in Brazil, from 1982 to 1985, he joined the Casa 7 group, a collective of artists that played a significant role in the Brazilian contemporary art scene. In 1984, Rodrigo Andrade participated in the 2nd São Paulo Contemporary Art Salon, where he won the revelation prize. The following year, he took part in the 18th São Paulo International Biennial and the 8th National Salon of Plastic Arts in Rio de Janeiro, where he received the acquisition prize.

His first solo exhibition was held in 1986 at the Subdistrito Comercial de Arte in São Paulo. Starting in 1987, he began working as a graphic artist, creating covers for magazines and books, notably for Veja magazine during the 1990s. In 1991, he received the Brasília Plastic Arts Award from the Museum of Art of Brasília and participated as a teacher in the project A Produção Refletida at the Oswald de Andrade Cultural Workshop.

Since 2001, Rodrigo Andrade has been teaching courses on contemporary art at the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo (MAM/SP), sharing his extensive knowledge and experience with new generations of artists.
