Rivane Neuenschwander

Rivane Neuenschwander Maciel Guimarães (Belo Horizonte, MG, 1967) is a renowned Brazilian visual artist. She studied drawing at the Escola de Belas Artes of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) from 1989 to 1994. Her first solo exhibition took place in 1992 at Itaú Galeria in Belo Horizonte and São Paulo. In 1993, Neuenschwander received the Marc Ferrez Photography Award for the project "Ex-Votos, Objetos Fotográficos," held at the National Arts Foundation (Funarte) in Rio de Janeiro.

In 1996, she was awarded in the Antarctica Artes com a Folha project, alongside artists Marepe (1970) and Cabelo (1967). Neuenschwander was an artist-in-residence at the Royal College of Art in London from 1996 to 1998. She participated in the 24th São Paulo International Biennial in 1998 and, in the same year, was the art director of the short film "Otto, Eu Sou um Outro," directed by Lucas Bambozzi (1965) and Cao Guimarães (1965).

In 1999, she was an artist-in-residence at the International Artists Studio Program in Sweden (Iaspis) in Stockholm. She collaborated with Cao Guimarães in directing the experimental videos "Sopro" (2000) and "Word/World" (2001). In 2001, she received an award from the ArtPace Foundation, based in San Antonio, United States.

Rivane Neuenschwander participated in the Venice Biennale in 2003 and 2004, and the 27th São Paulo International Biennial in 2006, solidifying her international career and making significant contributions to contemporary Brazilian art.
