Resendio

José da Silva, artistically known as Resendio, was born in 1941 in Alagoas. He is a renowned wood sculptor who began carving his own toys at the age of 10, using vegetable crates. Currently, he lives and works in his workshop on the banks of the São Francisco River. Resendio uses woods such as cedar, jackfruit, and mulungu to create playful pieces with original polychromy.

With a sharp critical sense and a lot of humor, Resendio has developed a vast universe of characters born from his sensitive observation of the world around him. His sculptures depict popular festivals, amusement parks, and typical scenes from the Brazilian northeast. Throughout his career, he has participated in several important exhibitions in the country, and his works are highly valued by collectors and galleries.
