Renato Rios

Born in Brasília in 1989, Renato Rios holds a bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the University of Brasília (UnB), completed between 2008 and 2013. Since 2016, he has lived and worked in São Paulo. His practice investigates symbolic intuition, intertwining representation and mythical consciousness in the relations between nature, spirit, and the world.

A key element in his trajectory is his ongoing exchange with painter Paulo Pasta — one of Brazil’s great colorists — with whom Rios has collaborated as an assistant for seven years. In his paintings, chromatic fields engage in subtle yet forceful tensions, shifting according to proximity and contrast. This interplay creates a magnetic balance that invites viewers into spiritual and metaphysical realms, suggesting a passage from the world of forms to that of ideas, from the corporeal to the immaterial. His work ultimately seeks to preserve a sense of primordial, almost archaic, time and space.
