Regina Giménez

Regina Giménez was born in Barcelona in 1966, where she continues to live and work. Her work is characterized by an iconography that explores graphic design and marketing techniques of a post-industrial world. Her paintings evoke the graphic and industrial design of Germany and Russia from the interwar years, using elements of the international style to create abstract compositions.

With backgrounds rich in textures and gestural brushstrokes, the main elements of Regina's work are collages applied to the pictorial and emotive canvas, giving the compositions their characteristic relief. Her urban scenes, almost utopian, represent a more innocent world where the power of consumerism and industrialization is viewed benevolently. However, her work does not fall into postmodern nostalgia, but rather invites the viewer to enter the architectural space created by the broad layers of color and dense texture that inform the work, while compelling us to reflect on the powerful irony that inspires these paintings.

Regina Giménez has held solo exhibitions in galleries in Germany, Barcelona, Madrid, France, and Belgium. She is the recipient of several prestigious awards and has exhibited annually at the International Art Fair of Madrid, ARCO, since 1997. Her work is part of the collections of important institutions such as the Museu D'Art Modern de Tarragona, the Carmen & Lluís Bassat Foundation in Barcelona, the Coprime Foundation in Paris, and the Testimoni Collection of La Caixa in Barcelona.
