Olimpia Couto

Olimpia Couto is a renowned Brazilian painter, muralist, and engraver. She graduated from the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, where she had the opportunity to work as an assistant to engraver Yara Tupynambá. During this period, Olimpia executed significant murals such as "Genesis, The Creation of the World" at the Church of Ferros, MG, and "War and Peace" at the City Council of Belo Horizonte. Her skill in engraving was recognized in 1971 when she received the 1st prize at the Salon of the Mineiro Plastic Artist. In 1973, she held her first solo exhibition, marking the beginning of a distinguished artistic career.

Over the years, Olimpia continued to stand out, with notable works presented at the National Biennial in São Paulo in 1979, where a special room was dedicated to her works. Around 1982, she was responsible for creating panels for the Association of Employees and for the City Hall of UFMG. In 1992, during the group exhibition Eco Art, which occurred parallel to the Eco 92 meeting, Olimpia was awarded the gold medal.

In 1997, her impact and contributions to the arts were recognized with the title of Personality Arts Sector by the MG Tourism Newspaper, in addition to receiving the Alto São Francisco Trophy. Olimpia Couto transcends traditional technique, exploring transparencies and graphics that characterize Minas Gerais art but with a reflective and poetic approach that surpasses the boundaries of time.
