O Bastardo

O Bastardo, a 23-year-old artist, was born in Mesquita, in the Baixada Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro. His artistic journey began with graffiti at the age of 15. At 18, he won a scholarship to attend the video art course at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, where he was mentored by artist Suzana Queiroga. During the pandemic, O Bastardo applied for a scholarship and residency at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, becoming the only South American artist accepted.

His paintings depict prominent Black figures in music, such as Mano Brown, Kanye West, Playboi Carti, and Travis Scott, as well as anonymous figures, promoting the idea that Black people's success should be normalized. O Bastardo believes his personal journey is intertwined with his artistic research. He draws inspiration from music, especially rap and trap, and graffiti, maintaining a spontaneous and visceral approach to his work without following traditional techniques.
