Noêmia Mourão

Noemia Mourão Moacyr (Bragança Paulista, São Paulo, 1912 - São Paulo, 1992) was a versatile artist, recognized as a painter, set designer, and draftsman. She began her studies in 1932 under the guidance of the renowned painter Di Cavalcanti (1897-1976), whom she married the following year. Between 1935 and 1940, she lived in Paris, where she furthered her education at the Ranson and La Grande Chaumière academies, in addition to studying Philosophy and Art History at the Sorbonne. During her time in France, Noemia contributed to prestigious publications such as Le Monde and Paris Soir and participated in cultural programs on Radio Diffusion Française, alongside artists such as Cícero Dias (1907-2013), Tavares Bastos, and Marcelino de Carvalho. After returning to Brazil, she also focused on sculpture, studying with the master Victor Brecheret (1894-1955).
