Newton Mesquita

Newton Ferreira Mesquita (São Paulo, June 6, 1949) is a multifaceted Brazilian artist whose career spans painting, drawing, printmaking, set design, photography, and sculpture.

Mesquita graduated in architecture from Universidade Braz Cubas in Mogi das Cruzes in 1977, but his involvement with visual arts began earlier in São Paulo, where he started producing lithographs and silkscreens. Since 1975, he has participated in official salons and group exhibitions in various cities in Brazil and abroad, including Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Barcelona, New York, Tokyo, and Tel Aviv.

His work is recognized for its versatility and skill in various media. Mesquita has produced notebook and book covers, as well as other graphic works for Cia Melhoramentos and Editora Brasiliense. He has also worked as a set designer for television, video, and cinema. In addition, he served as the director of the Museum of Image and Sound in São Paulo.

Legacy and Collections
Newton Mesquita's works are part of important public and private collections in Brazil and abroad. His works are included in the collections of the São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP), the Museum of Brazilian Art (MAB) in São Paulo, and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.
