Marília Giannetti Torres

Marília Giannetti Torres (Rio Acima, MG, 1925 - Rio de Janeiro, RJ, 2010) was a Brazilian painter, draughtswoman, printmaker, and teacher. Between 1945 and 1948, she studied painting with the renowned artist Alberto da Veiga Guignard in Belo Horizonte, where she became a teacher in 1957. The following year, she moved to Rio de Janeiro, where she expanded her studies in printmaking at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM/RJ) and painting with the renowned artists Burle Marx and Di Cavalcanti.

In 1966, Marília founded and directed Galeria Giro, an important space for contemporary art in Rio de Janeiro. In 1975, she began teaching art in her own studio, continuing to influence and train new artists with her vast experience and knowledge.

Marília Giannetti Torres is remembered for her significant contribution to Brazilian art, both as an artist and as an educator. Her work encompasses various techniques and styles, reflecting her diverse training and constant search for innovation and artistic expression.
