Maria Guadalupe

Maria Guadalupe M. da Costa Canedo (born 1912, Monte Carmelo, MG) is a Brazilian artist known for her paintings that capture the essence and nostalgia of her homeland, Minas Gerais. It was only in 1969 that she began painting professionally, holding her first solo exhibition at the Clube Atlético Paulistano. The following year, she held two new exhibitions at the KLM Gallery and the Auditório Itália Gallery, both in São Paulo.

Guadalupe's paintings evoke a nostalgic atmosphere, depicting the intense and happy years of a quintessentially Minas Gerais environment, without asphalt and electric light. Her works reflect a time when people knew each other, conversed, and maintained their habits of gathering. With a natural gift for communication, Guadalupe believes in art as a means to improve the world.

Maria Guadalupe has held several exhibitions in Brazil, including at the Cravo e Canela Gallery, Seta Gallery, and Jacques Ardies Gallery in São Paulo, and at Jean-Jacques Gallery in Rio de Janeiro.
