Maria Do Carmo Carvalho

Maria do Carmo Carvalho (born 1941 in Jacareí, SP) is a Brazilian artist known for her work in printmaking and the visual arts. She studied with renowned artists such as Waldemar da Costa, Sérgio Fingermann, Branca de Oliveira, and Nazareth Pacheco, and participated in workshops with Artur Lescher, Ana Maria Tavares, and Regina Silveira, among others.

Maria do Carmo Carvalho has participated in numerous exhibitions in Brazil and abroad. Notable among these are the IX Internazionale Triennale – Intergraphit 90 (Berlin, Germany), Impression Bleu, a project by the Presse Papier association (Quebec, Canada), and Brazilian Contemporary Printmakers, at the Pratt Institute – Steuben West Gallery (New York, USA). Her career has been recognized with several awards, including the Brasília Prize (Funarte) and the XXI National Salon of Fine Arts Award, Rio de Janeiro.

In 1995, Maria do Carmo traveled to Barcelona, where she worked in the studio of Tristan Barbará, printer for Antoni Tàpies. In 2009, one of her prints was included in an album organized by Ernesto Bonatto, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Gravura Brasileira gallery, directed by Eduardo Besen in São Paulo, SP. In 2012, the book “Maria do Carmo Carvalho” by Enock Sacramento was published, celebrating thirty years of her artistic career.

Maria do Carmo Carvalho is known for her technical skill and the depth of her works, which explore a variety of themes with sensitivity and precision. Her contribution to Brazilian art is significant, both for the quality of her works and for the influence she has had on emerging artists.
