Manuel Messias Dos Santos

Manuel Messias dos Santos (1945, Aracaju, Sergipe - 2001, Rio de Janeiro, RJ) was a prominent Brazilian woodcut printmaker and painter. His artistic training began between 1961 and 1962 under Abelardo Zaluar at the National Museum of Fine Arts, and continued between 1963 and 1964 under Ivan Serpa at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro.

Messias participated in the National Salon of Modern Art in 1965 and 1968, holding his first solo exhibition in 1968 at the Fátima Interior Architecture Gallery in Rio de Janeiro. In 1969, he won the Summer Salon Prize from Jornal do Brasil at the Museum of Modern Art. In 1980, he received three new awards: at the II Ibero-American Biennial in Mexico, at the Annual Print Exhibition in Curitiba, and at the III National Salon of Plastic Arts in Rio de Janeiro.
