Manfredo De Souzanetto

Manfredo Alves de Souzanetto (Jacinto, Minas Gerais, 1947) is a Brazilian multidisciplinary artist, working as a painter, draftsman, and sculptor. His artistic journey began at the age of 16 when he started drawing studies. In 1967, he moved to Belo Horizonte, where he entered the Escola Guignard in 1969. Between 1972 and 1975, he studied Architecture at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). In 1974, he participated in the 5th University Art Salon in Belo Horizonte, where he was awarded a scholarship to study in France.

From 1975 to 1979, he lived in Paris, where he studied photography at the École Nationale Louis Lumière and attended the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. During his time in France, he was influenced by American abstract painting, Russian constructivism, and the work of the Support-Surface group. After returning to Brazil in 1980, he lived in Rio de Janeiro and the following year enrolled in the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where he completed his studies in printmaking.

In the 1980s, he began exploring the use of canvases and cut woods in geometric shapes, applying pigments made from soil samples collected in Minas Gerais. In 1985, he received a travel grant in the 8th National Salon of Plastic Arts from Funarte, held in Rio de Janeiro. Between 1999 and 2000, he was an artist-in-residence at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art Décoratif in Limoges-Aubusson, France.
