Leda Catunda

Leda Catunda Serra (São Paulo, 1961)
Brazilian visual artist recognized for her work as a painter and printmaker. She studied Fine Arts at Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado (FAAP) in São Paulo from 1980 to 1984, where she was a student of renowned figures such as Regina Silveira, Julio Plaza, Nelson Leirner, and Walter Zanini.

In 1986, she began teaching at FAAP and later in her own studio, remaining active in this role until the mid-1990s. She also conducted courses and workshops in various cultural institutions across Brazil and occasionally abroad. In 1990, she received the Prêmio Brasília de Artes Plásticas/Distrito Federal in the acquisition category.

In 2003, she completed her PhD at the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (ECA/USP) with the thesis “Poética da Maciez: Pinturas e Objetos Poéticos”, under the supervision of Julio Plaza. Between 1998 and 2005, she taught painting and drawing at Faculdade Santa Marcelina (FASM). In 1998, her work was the subject of the book Leda Catunda, authored by Tadeu Chiarelli and published by Cosac Naify.
