Karin Lambrecht

Painter, Draftswoman, Printmaker, and Sculptor

Karin Marilin Haessler Lambrecht began her artistic studies at the Ateliê Livre of the Porto Alegre City Hall from 1973 to 1976. Under the guidance of Danúbio Gonçalves, she studied lithography between 1977 and 1978. In 1979, she graduated in drawing and printmaking from the Instituto de Artes at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (IA/UFRGS) and held her first solo exhibition at Espaço 542.

In the early 1980s, Lambrecht enhanced her painting skills under Raimund Girke at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. In 1986, she had a solo show at Galeria Tina Presser in Porto Alegre. Two years later, she received the Ivan Serpa Prize from Funarte.

Throughout the 1980s, Lambrecht incorporated industrial debris into her works, engaging with arte povera and expressionism. She sought new formal possibilities in painting by eliminating traditional stretcher bars and sewing pieces of canvas together. In the 1990s, she began adding organic materials such as earth grains and blood to the surface of her canvases, enhancing the tactile and symbolic dimension of her work.
