Julia Goeldi

Julia Goeldi was born in São Paulo in 1985. She began her studies at the University of São Paulo (USP) in 2005, where she earned a degree in Visual Poetics with a focus on printmaking. In 2019, she completed her master's degree at the same university, specializing in the techniques of aquatint and etching, which have become central to her artistic practice.

Goeldi's work primarily evolves from the observation and perception of her surroundings, with a particular interest in representing light within the graphic arts. She often executes her printmaking process outdoors, especially when the subject matter is landscape. For this, she uses a small mobile studio, allowing her to create prints on-site with all the necessary materials.

This approach fosters a unique dynamic between observing the environment and translating it into carved drawings, forming an extensive and inventive graphic universe expressed in her prints. In addition to landscapes, another frequent focus of Goeldi's work is portraiture in aquatint on small-format plates. During this process, the model remains present until the end of the etching baths, adding a performative aspect to her technique.
