Jotape

Joaquim Correia Pereira Jr., known globally as Jotape, is a Brazilian visual artist born in the countryside of Rio de Janeiro who rose to prominence in the world's art and fashion capitals. With a life story fit for a book, Jotape has built a multifaceted career encompassing hotel management, tech retail, and entrepreneurship in cities such as Miami, Luanda, and Lisbon.

His unexpected turn toward art came after a financial setback that forced him to reinvent himself and discover a natural talent he never knew existed. At first, Jotape’s sole focus was to sell his art for meals, living in a friend’s studio in Miami and getting by with the bare minimum.

In that studio, Jotape began to explore his creativity using what he had at hand: wall paint on cardboard, pallets, collages, and drawings, eventually transitioning to the canvases and sculptures that brought him fame. It was during this time that he developed the Dompa series, characterized by constant reinvention and the blending of his life experiences.

As Jotape explains: "The beginning is the most important part of any process, and no matter how hard the past has been, you can always start over. Art was always part of my life, but I never imagined living from it. Rebirths allowed me to explore the world and, even better, gave me the chance to become a better version of myself.
