José Bechara

José Bechara, born in 1957 in Rio de Janeiro, is a prominent painter who began his studies in visual arts at the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage between 1987 and 1991. Bechara started his artistic career in the late 1980s and held his first solo exhibition at the Cândido Mendes Cultural Center in 1992. The following year, he received an acquisition award at the 13th National Salon of Plastic Arts. Since the early 1990s, Bechara has been exploring oxidation processes on truck canvases and experimenting with other materials, such as cowhide. He has participated in several significant exhibitions both in Brazil and internationally, including the 25th São Paulo International Biennial in 2002 and the 29th Panorama of Brazilian Art at the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art in 2005. In 2002, he was a speaker at the Dynamic Encounters International Art Workshop. His book "José Bechara, drawings: like a firefly's blink" was published by Réptil Editora.
