Jorge Macchi

Jorge Macchi, born in 1963 in Buenos Aires, where he also lives and works, is a prominent Argentine artist known for his innovative approaches involving information and media. His works often incorporate materials like newspapers and maps, exploring the hidden narratives within these everyday elements. In "The Speaker's Corner" (2002), for example, he manipulates newspaper texts by removing the words and leaving only the punctuation, creating a new visual context.

Macchi also works with themes that connect visual arts to other disciplines like music and literature. In "Caja de musica" (2004), he uses a traffic light to direct urban flows, while in "Buenos Aires Tour" (2003), he collaborated with Edgardo Rudnitzky to create soundscapes based on the city. Another work, "Incidental Music" (1997), features a musical score made from newspaper cutouts.

Jorge Macchi has a distinguished career with significant participations in various international exhibitions, including the São Paulo Biennial in 2004, the Istanbul Biennial in 2002, and solo shows such as at the Centre Regional d'Art Contemporain in France (2001) and the Ruth Benzacar Gallery in Buenos Aires (2003). His work was chosen for the official poster of the 27th São Paulo International Biennial, a composition made of newspaper clippings that highlights only the quotes' quotation marks.
