Rankin

John Rankin Waddell, professionally known as Rankin, is a renowned British photographer and director, born in Glasgow in 1966. Throughout his career, he has photographed several iconic figures, including Björk, Kate Moss, Madonna, David Bowie, and even Queen Elizabeth II.

Rankin's style is described by the London Evening Standard as "high gloss, highly sexed, and hyper-perfect," a theme that resonates through his impactful fashion and portrait photography.

Besides his photographic career, Rankin has also ventured into directing, producing music videos, documentaries, feature and short films, and commercials.

Youth and Education:
Rankin was born in Glasgow, but moved to Yorkshire in 1976 with his family, where he attended Thirsk School. Later, the family moved to St Albans, and he attended Beaumont School.

Before discovering his passion for photography, Rankin worked as a hospital porter at age 21 and began studying accountancy at Brighton Polytechnic, but he did not complete his course after realizing his interests lay elsewhere. He then dedicated himself to studying photography, initially in a BTech course at Barnfield College in Luton, followed by a bachelor's degree at the London College of Printing, which he also did not complete.
