Jaime Prades

A Brazilian artist born in Spain in 1958, he has lived and worked in São Paulo since 1975. In the 1980s, he was part of the TUPINÃODÁ collective, which has become a historical reference for contemporary artistic actions in urban public spaces.

Over more than three decades of work, he has developed a diverse body of work, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, objects, and installations. Despite exploring a wide range of mediums and languages, his distinctive style is easily recognizable due to the defining characteristics of his strokes and his constant experimentation.

His artistic production is organized into five main series: Machines, Totems, Absurdities, Shamanic, and Human Nature. These groups reflect the central themes explored by the artist: dehumanization, ancestry, joy, the sacred, and the materialist civilizational crisis.

The artist’s work raises critical questions such as the boundaries between public and private spaces, the abandonment and decharacterization of communities, the value of art in the face of the devaluation of vernacular arts, cities as a medium, and the urban stage as a territory for coexistence and interaction.
