Jacqueline Leirner

Jacqueline Leirner, born in São Paulo in 1961, is a renowned Brazilian multimedia artist. She graduated in fine arts from the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation (Faap) in 1984, where she also taught between 1987 and 1989. During the 1980s, Leirner was the bass player for the punk band U.K.C.T. In 1991, she stood out as an artist-in-residence at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, United States, and that same year, she served as a visiting professor at the University of Oxford and an artist-in-residence at the Modern Art Museum of Oxford, England.

Leirner's work is deeply influenced by a lengthy collection of commonplace objects, often related to the world of consumption. She inserts these everyday objects into the artistic circuit, removing them from their anticipated consumption flow and reassigning them new meanings. Since the "Lung" series (1985/1987), Leirner has been dedicated to works that explore the variety of forms and colors of materials, addressing issues such as the presence of color, linearity, and horizontality.
