Isabel Pons

Isabel Pons Iranzo is a multifaceted artist with a rich and diverse career as an engraver, designer, illustrator, painter, teacher, and costume designer. Born in Barcelona, Isabel studied painting at the National School of Fine Arts of Barcelona from 1925 to 1930 and simultaneously attended the Industrial School of Sabadell, where she was a student of Juan Vila-Cinca and A. Vila Arrufat. During the 1930s and 1940s, she honed her skills in the studio of painter Carlos Vazquez and was involved in the activities of the Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona.

A notable highlight of her career was around 1935 when Isabel illustrated books by renowned Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. In 1945, she moved to Rio de Janeiro, where she continued to expand her artistic endeavors. In 1957, Isabel began teaching engraving at the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage (EAV/Parque Lage), making significant contributions to the Brazilian art scene. She became a Brazilian citizen in 1958 and, in 1959, studied with Rossini Perez and Johnny Friedlaender, two prominent figures in contemporary art.
