Nicola

Nicola began his artistic education in 1954, attending the drawing teacher's course at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (Faap) and the Atelier-Abstração of Samson Flexor in São Paulo. During this period, he met Jacques Douchez, with whom he founded the Douchez-Nicola Tapestry Workshop in 1957, active until 1980. Together, they produced tapestries that evolved from flat to three-dimensional.

He undertook internships at renowned European manufactures, including the famous Aubusson in France. In 1961, he held a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro (MAM/RJ). He participated in several editions of the São Paulo Biennial (7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, and 13th), and exhibited his works internationally, such as at the O.E.A. Gallery in Washington in 1973, and the National Museum of Fine Arts of Mexico. That same year, he received the tapestry category award from the São Paulo Association of Art Critics (APCA).

In addition to his artistic contributions, Nicola was an important collector and scholar of Brazilian feather art, producing the exhibition "Feather Art in Brazil" in 1980 at the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo (MAM/SP). In the 1990s, he began exploring printmaking through computer technology, presenting some of these works at the Club Athletico Paulistano in São Paulo in 2000.
