Hildebrando De Castro

Hildebrando de Castro, born in Olinda in 1957, is a prominent self-taught Brazilian visual artist whose career began in the late 1970s. Since then, he has impressed critics and audiences with the precision of his paintings, regardless of the technique used. His first individual exhibition took place in 1980 at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro, where he presented a series of figurative drawings.

Initially working with colored pencils and later with dry pastel for 15 years, Castro found himself limited and, in 1999, began to explore oil painting. He moved to New York at the same time, where he lived for 11 years, refining his oil on canvas technique and achieving a precision comparable to that obtained with pastel.

In the 1990s, Castro's work was characterized by the depiction of common or eccentric figures, often dramatized and portrayed in an extravagant manner. Starting in 2010, he developed the "Windows" series, featuring sharp and geometric representations of building facades, created from photographs and painted in acrylic on canvas. These works stand out for their meticulousness and virtuosity, establishing links with constructivism.

Hildebrando de Castro has participated in significant individual and collective exhibitions, including at Paço das Artes in São Paulo in 2009, at the Paço Imperial in 1998, and at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil in 1995, as well as international exhibitions in Germany and at modern art museums in Brazil. He currently lives and works in São Paulo.
