Guto Lacaz

Carlos Augusto Martins Lacaz, known as Guto Lacaz, is a visual artist and architect born in São Paulo in 1948. Graduated from FAU SJC in 1974, Lacaz began his artistic career in 1978 by winning the "Unusual Object - Applied Art" award at Paço das Artes, marking the start of a path filled with innovation and experimentation.

Lacaz's first solo exhibition, "Modern Ideas", took place in 1982 at Galeria São Paulo. The following year, he presented "Electro Performance" at FUNARTE SP and participated in the 18th Biennial with "Electro Sphero Space" at the exhibition "The Weave of Taste". During the 80s, he stood out with installations like "Auditorium for delicate issues" at Ibirapuera lake and "Cosmos – a walk in infinity" at MASP.

In the 90s, Lacaz continued to explore the intersection between art and technology, with projects like "Periscope" at Arte Cidade II and the "Machines III" show at Cultura Artística Theater. He received the prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship, and in 2003 launched the serigraph series "Small Great Actions". In 2007, his "Graphic" exhibition at CCSP earned him the APCA Graphic Work award.

Recently, Lacaz created the hydro-kinetic sculpture "Water Waves" for SESC Belenzinho and participated in "Open Brasília" with the "Unidentified Floating Object - OFNI Paranoá". In 2012, he inaugurated the wind complex "Cláudio, Leonardo and Orlando Villas Boas" at Estoril Park SBC and held the "Electro Books" exhibition at Maria Antonia.

Author of books such as "Sorry for the Writing", "Graphic", "manobject", and "80 Drawings", Lacaz is known for his humor and ability to surprise, being a member of AGI.
