Guilherme Ginane

Born and raised in the Méier neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, my artistic journey began with a degree in Social Communication from Universidade Gama Filho, followed by years of work as a designer and art director. My passion for painting led me to enroll at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage in 2007. Later, from 2010 to 2013, I continued my studies at Instituto Tomie Ohtake in São Paulo, where I was mentored by artist Paulo Pasta, further refining my approach to painting.

My first solo exhibition, "Que dia feliz hoje ainda vai ser", was held in 2017 at Galeria Millan in São Paulo, featuring a critical text by writer Bernardo Carvalho. In 2019, I presented "Algumas Sombras", a solo exhibition at Paço Imperial in Rio de Janeiro, curated by Douglas Freitas. This exhibition explored the interplay of light emerging from dense, dark surfaces. The following year, I launched "Menózada", a virtual exhibition on Galeria Millan’s platform.

In 2021, I was invited to participate in the "Crônicas Cariocas" exhibition at the Museu de Arte do Rio, curated by Conceição Evaristo, Luiz Antonio Simas, Marcelo Campos, and Amanda Bonan. That same year, one of my paintings was selected for the cover of the Brazilian edition of Samuel Beckett’s "More Pricks Than Kicks", published by Editora Globo. Additionally, I took part in the group exhibition "Brisa", at Galeria Quadra in Rio de Janeiro.

Between 2019 and 2020, I was a resident artist at Instituto Lanchonete in Rio de Janeiro, an initiative promoting art and education within communities near the city’s port region. In 2019, my artwork was featured on the cover of "O lugar mais sombrio", a trilogy by Milton Hatoum, published by Companhia das Letras. That same year, I participated in the group show "O que não é floresta é prisão política", held at Ocupação 9 de Julho in São Paulo. A memorable moment for me was when two of my works were taken home by children from the occupation, a symbolic act that deeply resonated with my artistic practice.

Throughout my career, I have participated in exhibitions such as #iff2018 at Instituto Figueiredo Ferraz in Ribeirão Preto; Desassossego at Galeria Estação in São Paulo (2016); Abre Alas at Gentil Carioca in Rio de Janeiro (2016); and the artist residency at Pivô (2015–2016), a period during which I established myself in São Paulo. In 2017, I was featured in the SOLOS project at Feira PARTE, and in 2015, I participated in the Salão do Museu de Arte de Ribeirão Preto.

My works are part of significant Brazilian collections, including the Instituto Figueiredo Ferraz in Ribeirão Preto.
