Gregório Gruber

Gregório Gruber (born in 1951) emerged in the artistic scene in the late 1970s as a draftsman and printmaker, during a revival of figuration and painting. After starting his studies in Fine Arts at FAAP in São Paulo, he traveled through Europe attending various art courses in cities such as Paris, London, and Amsterdam. In 1974, at the invitation of Pietro Maria Bardi, Gruber returned to Brazil to hold his first solo exhibition at MASP. Since then, he has participated in several biennials and exhibitions in museums and galleries worldwide, including the XV São Paulo International Biennial, the Paris Biennial, Modern Drawing in Brazil, and Portraits and Self-Portraits in the Gilberto Chateaubriand Collection. He has received multiple awards, including Best Print by the São Paulo Association of Art Critics, Acquisition Prize at the National Salon of Plastic Arts, and a prize by FUNARTE at the 10th São Paulo Contemporary Art Salon. In 1989, he also began creating in his studio in Barcelona, where he expanded his techniques to include sculpture, material paintings, and scenography. Currently, Gruber resides in São Paulo and in the Serra da Cantareira, maintaining a studio where he works with various techniques such as oil and acrylic painting, clay and wood sculpture, lithography, metal engraving, and assemblage.
