Fúlvio Pennacchi

Fúlvio Pennacchi

Italy - 1905 - 1992

Fulvio Pennacchi was born in Villa Collemandina, Garfagnana, Tuscany, Italy in 1905 and passed away in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1992. He began his artistic training in 1924 at the Regio Istituto di Belle Arti (now Istituto Superiore Artistico A. Passaglia) in Lucca, where he studied under painter Pio Semeghini. In 1929, Pennacchi moved to São Paulo and initially engaged in various jobs until 1933 when he began assisting Galileo Emendabili in creating funerary monuments. By 1935, he was frequenting the studio of Francisco Rebolo and interacting with members of the Grupo Santa Helena. The following year, he began teaching geometric drawing and arts at the Dante Alighieri School. During this period, he also became a member of the Família Artística Paulista (FAP) and started producing frescoes and oil panels for residences, churches, hotels, and other buildings, notably creating large frescoes for the Church of Nossa Senhora da Paz in the Glicério neighborhood between 1941 and 1948.

From 1952, Pennacchi researched polychrome techniques in ceramics. In 1965, he began a period of withdrawal, distancing himself from exhibitions and the artistic circuit. He reopened his studio in 1973, receiving several honors in Brazil and Italy, and collaborated with ceramist Eunice Pessoa to produce numerous pieces displayed in 1975. Although he never ceased his artistic activities, he returned to the exhibition scene and continued to produce fresco panels. In 1980, Pietro Maria Bardi published a book on his work. Nine years later, the book "Ofício Pennacchi," organized by Valério Antonio Pennacchi, was released by Gema Design, followed by "Fulvio Pennacchi: Pintura Mural," published by Metalivros in 2002.
