Francisco Rebolo

Francisco Rebolo Gonsales, better known as Francisco Rebolo or simply Rebolo (São Paulo, August 22, 1902 – São Paulo, July 10, 1980), was a Spanish-Brazilian painter, printmaker, and footballer. Rebolo is one of the founding members of the Grupo Santa Helena, a collective of artists that played a crucial role in consolidating the second generation of Brazilian modernists. This group was instrumental in democratizing art in the country, making it more accessible and closer to Brazilian realities.

Born in the Mooca neighborhood in São Paulo, the son of Andalusian immigrants from Spain, Francisco Rebollo Merguizo and Rosa González Rodríguez, he was the fifth child of the couple. Rebolo not only had a distinguished career in the visual arts but also left his mark on sports, being the creator of the emblem for the Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, designed in the early 1930s. His life and work exemplify the versatility and depth of talent that marked the modernist era in Brazil, crossing boundaries between art and popular culture.
