Floriano Teixeira

Floriano de Araújo Teixeira (Cajapió, Maranhão, 1923 - Salvador, Bahia, 2000) was a prominent Brazilian painter, draftsman, engraver, and scenographer. He began his drawing studies in 1935 under Rubens Damasceno in São Luís, and painting with João Lázaro de Figueiredo in 1940. In 1949, Teixeira was a founding member of the Núcleo Eliseu Visconti, and in 1951, in Fortaleza, he helped establish the Grupo dos Independentes along with Antonio Bandeira and Siqueira. His contributions to Brazilian art extended to managing the Art Museum of the Federal University of Ceará in 1962. Besides his artistic work, Teixeira illustrated several books by renowned Brazilian authors such as Jorge Amado and Graciliano Ramos, including titles like "Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands", "The Double Death of Quincas Water-Bray", and "The Boy from the Painted Desert".
