Flavio Rossi

Flavio Rossi, born in Campinas, is a graduate in Visual Arts from the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC) of Campinas, and has taken various courses in drawing, illustration, and painting, including an artistic residency in Italy.

Encouraged by his father to draw from an early age, Flavio began working at the age of sixteen in an advertising agency, creating illustrations for packaging. Over a ten-year career, he worked for major names in the publishing market, such as Editora Abril and Folha de São Paulo.

Painting became a central part of his practice after he decided to leave the advertising field and focus entirely on his artistic career. Sculpture developed during his artistic residency, where he began exploring resin and other alternative materials. He soon became known for his innovative use of media and techniques, the exaggerated facial expressions (inherited from humorous drawing and editorial illustration), and the pop aesthetic of vibrant colors.

His work investigates the media explosion and the visual bombardment of the contemporary world. Flavio seeks ways to represent how the human mind processes and normalizes the constant excess of daily images, whether from our phones, social media, or street billboards and posters. He calls his creative process “fragmentation and union,” in which he collects images from diverse sources, fragments them, and then reassembles them into a final composition that illustrates this perception of the contemporary mind. The layering of these images, focusing on the human figure, aims to create a portrait of the mind in the present time.

Influenced by figures from figurative art, pop culture, and contemporary art, Flavio Rossi draws references from artists such as Lucian Freud, Yue Minjun, and Francis Bacon in his construction of the human figure, as well as incorporating the expressive brushwork of Chaïm Soutine and the pop representation of Jeff Koons.

Having participated in more than thirty solo and group exhibitions in Brazil and abroad (Italy, Spain, Switzerland, USA, Portugal, and England), Flavio has been involved in national and international art fairs, won nearly twenty art awards, and collaborated with major names like Ron Wood.
