Fernando Arias

Fernando Arias, born in 1963 in Armenia, Colombia, is a visual artist whose work continually questions the human condition through film, photography, installations, and interventions. His work often addresses issues such as conflict, sexuality, religion, and politics. Currently, Arias lives between Bogotá and the Pacific coast of Chocó, where he leads interdisciplinary artistic projects through his foundation, Mais Arte Mais Ação, in collaboration with artists and writers exploring social and environmental issues.

In 1994, he was awarded the National Art Prize of Colombia, and in 1999, he represented Colombia at the 48th Venice Biennale. He also participated in the 3rd Bogotá Biennial, the 5th and 8th Havana Biennials, the 2nd Mercosul Biennial, and the 1st Tirana Biennial.

Arias has received several grants and awards, including partnerships with Arts Collaboratory and Mais Arte Mais Ação, the Prince Claus Fund Award, several supports from the Arts Council of England, and the Space Studios Award, among others.

His solo exhibitions have been held at places like NCArte Gallery in Bogotá, East Central Gallery in London, and the Modern Art Gallery in Glasgow. He has participated in numerous film and video festivals, and his works are part of renowned collections such as Daros Latinamerica, Zurich; Victoria&Albert Museum, London; and Modern Art Museum, Bogotá.
