Ester Grinspum

Ester Grinspum (Recife PE, 1955) is a Brazilian artist who works as a draftsman, sculptor, engraver, painter, and illustrator. She began her studies under Luiz Paulo Baravelli and Marcello Nitsche at the Institute of Art and Decoration (Iade). From 1973 to 1977, she studied at the School of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo (FAU/USP), where she interacted with significant artists and critics such as Renina Katz, Flávio Império, Claudio Tozzi, Flávio Motta, Aracy Amaral, and Luiz Carlos Daher. In 1981, she had her first solo exhibition at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (Pesp), featuring drawings and watercolors. In the 1980s, her artistic production demonstrates a profound dialogue with both local and international art history. In 1988, she created her first sculpture for the installation "The Double and Time", which was displayed at the 20th São Paulo International Biennial the following year. During the 1990s, she received several grants, including from the Fundacion Helena Segy in Paris, a work grant from the European Ceramic Work Center in the Netherlands, and a residency at the Cité des Arts in Paris. In 2004, the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo held the exhibition "Ester Grinspum – An Anthology", curated by art historian Tadeu Chiarelli.
