Erika Verzutti

Erika Verzutti was born in 1971 in São Paulo, where she currently lives and works. She holds a bachelor's degree in industrial design from Universidade Mackenzie and a master's degree in fine arts from Goldsmiths College. In her artistic work, Verzutti explores the free combination of elements and styles. Although she uses traditional materials like clay and bronze, the artist breaks with formal practices by exposing the inner structure of her works and incorporating artistic "accidents," such as marks and splatters. Many of her sculptures show a particular interest in nature, using fruits and vegetables as molds for bronze pieces. Verzutti creates a unique universe, a space suspended between fantasy and reality, abstraction and figuration. She uses molds made from construction materials and elements of tropical nature to create sculptural collages of unusual and intriguing forms, often named with references to Western and Brazilian art history.
