Elisa Bracher

Elisa Bracher, born in São Paulo in 1965, is a renowned Brazilian sculptor, printmaker, and draftsman. She graduated in fine arts from the Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado (FAAP), where she also completed a course in metal engraving under the guidance of Evandro Carlos Jardim in 1989. After her studies, Elisa began teaching drawing and engraving at the same institution.

In the early 1990s, her abstract engravings showed a slight tendency towards constructivism. Alongside, Bracher began exploring three-dimensional works, initially working with metal and later with wood, often choosing old materials worn by time. Between 1998 and 1999, her monumental sculptures began incorporating wooden logs. With the help of a team of carpenters, she processed the logs, removing the bark and sawing them to form her works.

In 1998, the publisher Cosac & Naify released the book "Wood on Wood," which includes a text by art critic Rodrigo Naves, exploring Bracher's production and her significant contributions to contemporary art.
