Cristina Canale

In the early 1980s, Cristina Canale studied drawing and painting at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro. In 1984, she participated in the iconic group exhibition "Como Vai Você, Geração 80?", establishing herself in the Brazilian art scene as a member of what would become known as the Geração 80, alongside artists such as Adriana Varejão, Angelo Venosa, Beatriz Milhazes, Daniel Senise, and Leda Catunda. In 1993, she moved permanently to Germany after receiving an artistic creation grant from the state of Brandenburg, which also provided her with an artist residency at Schloss Wiepersdorf (Wiepersdorf Castle). In the same year, she was awarded a scholarship from the Deutscher Akademischer Austauch Dienst (DAAD), allowing her to further her studies at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (Düsseldorf Art Academy), where she studied under the Dutch conceptual artist Jan Dibbets until 1995.
