Cabral

Was born on October 25, 1948, in Marília, São Paulo, Brazil. He graduated in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo (FAU-USP), studying from 1970 to 1974. From 1974 to 1984, Cabral played significant roles as a teacher and coordinator of art workshops at the Lasar Segall Museum, and between 1981 and 1984, he guided painting and drawing activities at the São Paulo State Pinacoteca.

Cabral's artistic journey began in 1971 with an approach that blended influences from brutalism, as well as inspirations from artists such as Dubuffet, Giacometti, and Picasso, covering objects, drawings, paintings, and multimedia. In 1977, his artistic focus underwent a significant transformation, starting to explore the figuration performed in São Paulo during the 1940s, in the context of European modern painting. This phase of investigation emphasized observational, gestural, and material aspects of painting, which continued to evolve until 1991. In that year, his art underwent another evolution, marking a return to the initial brutalism, but this time seen as a visionary gesture, where the gaze is liberated in an expression of hyper-brutalism. The visual associations of this phase begin to be incorporated into the material of the works, appearing almost as apparitions that involve the viewer intensely.

Since 1994, Cabral has dedicated himself to developing the interaction between painting and sculpture, exploring new forms of visual expression and expanding the boundaries of his artistic practice.
